Week Three: Gratifications

We learned about Gratifications on class. “Gratifications” is different from “Pleasures”. The former means “fully engaging, absorbing; involve thinking, learning”, whereas the later describes “appeal to senses, emotions; brief; little thinking” according to handout Ken gave to us. For instance, when we laugh by watching comedy on TV, it is pleasures. On the other hand, when we are focusing on drawing picture, it means we feel gratifications.

In class, we divided small groups and shared each other’s gratifications. One of my group members said  she always feel gratifications when she reads books. Other member said cycling. For me, playing the saxophone is gratifications. I can forget everything but playing it, A lot of phrases are up in my brain. It was interesting to hear that everyone’s gratifications. It depends on each other, but I found we have something to be absorbed.

Gratifications is important in leadership. Leader has to pay attention his/her colleagues feel the sense of flow because
it is the key to do the task efficiently.

  1. I could enjoy the discussion about gratification with you. I remembered that Aoi said interesting thing. She loves to read, but it does not reach the sense of "flow" yet, so she wants to keep and try to. I agree with her opinion. It is difficult to feel confident when we start to do something new, but therefore there is more worth to do I think.
